I have fred loya and my 17 year old was driving my car wich is insured under my name.I have full coverage, now when the accident happened was when a pissed off driver cut infront of her and slammed the brakes. There wasnt any stop signs no traffic lights just road.Well she ended up hitting the pissed off driver. Now my insurance wants me to add my 17 year old to the policy and they want me to pay $250 to add her to the policy, they stated if i dont they will cancel my insurance also keep in mind that she doesnt have a license at all.

Is this normal on the Insurance Laws or am i being ripped off.

Some of you know what you're talking about; most of you don't. Young drivers are high risks for insurance companies, so companies charge higher premiums to insure them. If the policyholder does not want to pay the extra premium, the company will exclude the young driver, which means that if that driver has an accident, there will be no insurance available. It should be no surprise to the policyholder, however, because to exclude the driver he or she has to sign an excluded driver endorsement. If an insurance company does not know about a young or risky driver, and that driver has an accident, the company has to handle the claim. It cannot deny coverage because the driver was not on the policy or because he or she was not licensed. However, you can bet that from that moment forward, the company will take steps to avoid this situation occurring again. This complaint was about paying extra premium, not about coverage being denied. As I see it, coverage was not denied.

It's is your responsibility to add or exclude all housemembers in your household. The insurance shouldn't cover them but since they are not flat out canceling policy they might have to cover the accident since your daughter was probally found at fault. And they have to use your liability to pay the other driver's damages, they probally won't your vehicle so be thankful for that. At least.

So you want your insurance company to pay claims without yourself paying premium for someone driving your car? She would not have to be added to the policy if she hadn't caused an accident. If you say she is not going to drive the car, then simply sign the exclusion form saying she won't. My assumption is you don't want to sign the exclusion because she IS actually driving your car, as evidence by her wrecking it. A young driver on the policy is a huge risk for the insurance company, and therefor YOU should be paying for it, not me!
